Davy Jones - Vets Hooker RIP

DavyJones web it is my sad duty to tell you all that David (Davy) Jones died at the weekend.

He came back to the UK just a few short years ago from working in the oil industry in the Middle East.

Looking for some 'mates' in the locality he immediately signed up for the 'Glorious Vets' and was a big part of our successful Evergreen Cup run 2 seasons ago.

Davy was the embodiment of all that is good about rugby - "I bloody love this game ..." - I've lost count of how many times he said that, whilst he was rushing to be first at the bar after the game.

Davy leaves 4 children from his first marriage and his beloved second wife Ramona.

His funeral will be at St Johns Church Redhill on Monday 3rd June, details of the wake will be posted here when known.

Great Weekend of Fun and Fundraising

Our warm thanks are due to the teams responsible for the recent fun and fundraising this past weekend.

Dave (hutch) Hutchinson for the endless walk in the park that was the annual Golf day - no idea who won but I'm told a great day and evening and early morning was had by all!

David and Deborah Payton for putting on and catering for a fantastic Ball; good food, great company and a very good band contributed to a superb evening - top effort by everybody.

Plenty more in the diary for the summer!

RugbyTel - Phone Deal for Club Benefits

Have 50% of your Phone bill paid to Club funds

rugbytelWhat?

How does that work then?

Read through this document.

icon RugbyTel - How it works

It is really simple - you won't necessarily save money (although you might) but if you transfer your mobile contract to RugbyTel then fully 50% of the amount of money that you spend will go to the club funds.

Err, that's it.

Sign up please and let's get this ball rolling.

In the first instance please contact Tim Bostel on timbostel@googlemail.com and he'll put you in touch.

Development Festival Huge Success

Well done Everybody

Many congratulations to all involved in the Surrey Mini Development Festival on Sunday.

The organisation of the event under the chairmanship of Jason Smith was exemplary. The tremendous efforts of his hard working team ensured a day to remember for all who attended. Thanks to all who volunteered together with those working behind the scenes.

A day of competitive rugby was much enjoyed by Mayor of Reigate and Banstead Councillor Roger Newstead, Deputy President of Surrey Rugby Keith Heal and 1500 children from 23 Surrey clubs. Their enjoyment was enhanced by the arrival of the Surrey Air Ambulance and Surrey Fire and Rescue Service.

A great day for the club. Many thanks to all concerned.

David Forsyth, Chair of the Executive Committee

Keep off the GRASS!

1XV Pitch Repair and Re-seeding

keepoffAll Reigatian's kindly note that the 1st Team pitch is being repaired and re-seeded after the battering that it has taken this season from the weather and the boot!

Please assist Peter Bakker and his team of groundsmen by staying right off the pitch through the summer so that we can give the grass every chance to recover.

Bakker's Smackers win the League!

The 4XV clinched promotion on Saturday with a 25-12 victory at home to Merton to complete a fine season, winning the Surrey Foundation league title.

Led by Pete Bakker, his men have taken on all comers this season and get to the finish line having lost only one of their league games.

Originally the brainchild of the late, great John Lister who worked tirelessly to increase the club's player base with Pete, no more poignant a tribute to his legacy could be have been envisaged.

Congratulations to Pete and all of his players on a superb effort with admirable levels of commitment, determination and dedication all season.

The 'ICE' Protocol

ICE - In Case of Emergency

keep-calm-and-ice-your-phon

Here's an idea from our resident first responder and bottom smacker - the ICE protocol - very simple; you make a contact entry on your mobile phone of 'ICE' so that when you're being carted off to hospital with your neck in a brace your mates or the first responder can get in touch with your next of kin to let them know.
