Old Reigatian RFC

A message for the Grand Parents (and perhaps some parents as well!)

The Walking Rugby section of Old Reigatian RFC started in early 2020 and for reasons known to all everything stopped for the next 14 months but the signs were good that we would have a good nucleus of players some long standing members, others not only new to the club but new to any format of playing rugby.

Walking Rugby, like Walking Football, is a game designed for those of a certain age (over 50 predominantly) who want to remain fit and healthy but can’t for various reasons run around anymore. However it is also a useful game for younger persons who need to take a slow return to fitness (walking before running!). It is a non-contact form of Touch rugby played on a pitch that is wider than longer played by mixed teams of between 5 and 7 players. Games are of 2 x 7 minute halves using a size 4 ball. The aim is to score tries (crossing the try line is sufficient to score, no bending down or diving to score!!)

WR is fast growing in popularity with some 15 clubs in Surrey already running and others looking to follow. The aim of the club is to attract players from all over the local community with or without experience of playing. It is relatively east to learn and great fun to play.

We meet on Saturday mornings at 10.30 and play for an hour or so by which time the bar/coffee shop is open for a refreshing drink.

We already have a series of matches arranged and further games will be organised. In August the club played in its first festival in Bristol which was a wonderful experience and much was learned about playing the game.

If you are interested in playing you can contact Phil Smith on 07976 276250 or email him at phil@reigaterugbyschool.com

We look forward to welcoming you.
