Following the successes of those over 14s playing touch (non-contact) rugby at Old Reigatian RFC, we are delighted to offer Touch Rugby to more junior players.

Touch Rugby may suit those who are not keen on full contact or players who want to supplement their training with a format that improves skills like passing, timing, defensive lines and support running. Or maybe you want to try a fun team game that will also improve fitness and skill levels. Touch rugby has proven to be hugely successful at Old Reigatian RFC with three Under 18 girls representing England last year in European Championships (2 won gold, 1 silver) and twelve U18 boys and girls selected to take part in elite training and selection for the England squad. Our age group coaches have commented on how their players’ skills have improved when they attend Touch on a Monday night. Our RFU qualified coaches are experienced in coaching minis, juniors, youth and seniors rugby such that we offer a totally inclusive environment where all genders can play together, regardless of your ability level.

Touch Rugby is played in small teams (preferably 6-a-side) on a half-sized pitch. A player is “tackled” by being touched when in possession of the ball, they then place the ball on the ground, step-over it and play continues (like rugby league without the big tackles). If they haven’t scored after 6 touches, possession goes to the other team. It’s that simple. And that means it’s suitable for all levels, offer weekly sessions for those in U11-U14 age groups (ages 10-13 inclusive) at the club on Mondays from 6:30-7:30pm and depending on popularity may create further sessions on a Sunday or other night. Those aged 14 and over are welcome to attend the sessions from 7:30pm on a Monday.
