OR’s travelled with a new centre partnership in Will Graham Park & Lawrence Chittel both new to the Club this season and have made there presence felt with the physical style of play.
Despite the journey the Surrey team got off to an impressive start playing at pace and not allowing the Home team to settle. Within five minutes Alex Skinner had scored Reigatian’s first try with the visitors building pressure down the right wing Skinner picked and straight through a gap to score, 0-5.
OR’s fielded a long kick ahead and Fullback started a counter attack that lead to an end to end move with inside centre Will Graham Park forcing his way over to put Old Reigatian 0-10 ahead after twenty minutes.
Thurrock started to build some momentum and were putting pressure on the away team’s try line. As they tried to add width to their attack Reigatian Winger Finn Coyle intercepted the final pass and set off on a length of the field race. Thurrock gave chase but realistically no one was going to catch him as he scored the third try with 21 minutes on the clock. This time Alex Skinner who had taken over kicking duties with normal kicker Tom Baldwin injured, slotted the conversion 0-17.
Reigatian weren’t done yet and another turn over in possession lead to a break away try finished off by Ryan Taylor Travers. Sinner added the extra points 0-24. In injury time in the first half Thurrock got just reward for their efforts with a try with the last play of the half. Half Time score 5-24.
The second half started with the home team trying to build some momentum but a loose kick ahead gave fullback Tom Woodford an opportunity to run the ball back. With great effort beating a number of defenders to score, Skinner was again good for the two points moving the score to 5-31. Thurrock kept playing to their credit and showed great spirit their big pack winning a fair share of ball and the Thurrock No8 making good ground with the ball in hand.
These efforts brought them a second try before Woodford scored his second of the afternoon and moving OR’s into a 12-38 lead.
Thurrock rounded off the game with a final score making the result 17-31. After two losses it was great to get back to winning ways and winning with a bonus point away for home is always a good return on a league Saturday. Old Reigatian A XV also kept up their great start to the season with an impressive 61-19 win over Guildford 2nd XV.
