Organised by Surrey, the Waterfall Cup will be take place in the New Year. To help in seeding, Surrey have organised 3 ‘Value Festivals’, where Clubs enter mixed ability squads. The results of matches will be used to assist Surrey in seeding in the Waterfall Cup. The first was at London Irish on Sunday and Raiders entered 4 squads – more than every other Surrey Club.
We played 16 matches against teams from 9 different Clubs, winning 12, drawing 3 & losing 1, an outstanding set of results.
Comments from some of the coaches:
BEN: ‘Very pleased with the performance. Our aggressive defence put us on the front foot in all our games. Attack needs improvement but we are getting there’
LEE: ‘We won 4 out of 4 and the pleasing thing was that the boys listened to the coaches & implemented what they said. The ‘Raiders Rush’ defence was great as usual.’
DAN: ‘We butchered a few overlaps in the final game but still won. Good performance from the boys.’
View from the touchline:
As usual the key to our play was our aggressive defence – and our cover tackling was also outstanding, players putting their bodies on the line time & time again. In attack, we scored some outstanding tries, especially at the death to win close matches. We are blessed with several very talented strike runners.
If we aspire to be the best in Surrey, we must improve our decision making when we have the ball. Handling needs to be sharper, space identified & overlaps used. It’s nice to be picky when you are the most successful Club at a Festival.
