This week OR’s fielded a similar team to last Saturday’s XV that beat Gravesend away. With the exception of Jack Baart being unavailable with last Season’s Colts Captain Sam Lenihan taking over the 7 shirt before he goes of to Uni. Fly Half Lucas Overtoom was playing his last game before he goes travelling. Also Dan Grant injured his shoulder against Gravesend and this meant Captain Reilly Franklin Talbot moved in to the second row and Ethan Monk started at LooseHead Prop.
Both teams got off to an abrasive start with OC’s playing a more direct style of Rugby and the home team looking to move the ball and play with more width.
After ten minutes was style of play was to pay dividends with right Winger Tom Woodford showing his pace over 20 meters to score in the corner to give the Reigate team a 5-0 lead. This seems to give the team confidence and the ball was moved freely and at pace and within three minutes Woodford had crossed again this time Overtoom was successful with the conversion 12-0. Old Reigatian’s pace and width was something OC’s defensive really struggled to come to terms with and in the 19th minute outside centre Tom Allen dummied outside him for a huge hole to open up in front of him and he was under the posts. Overtoom again added the two extra points 19-0. So far a point a minute. Next up Back Row forward Seb Courtney Walker was in support of the backs and cut a great angle inside the Colf’s drifting defence to score. Overtoom again added the two points. The try scoring BP earned within half an hour. 26-0. On the 26th minute from the base of a scrum Tom Allen bumped off one tackle to give him a free run to score with the visitors having no answer to the speed & power of attack and low error count giving them little opportunity to build any momentum. 33-0
In a brief break for Colf’s they moved the ball from a line out and a missed tackle out wide give them their first chance which the took to get themselves on the scoresheet. 33-5
However on the stroke of half time Finn Coyle came off his Wing and cut through the visitors midfield making the Half Time score 40-5
The second half carried on with more of the same with Ryan Taylor Travers scoring in the third minute. 45-5.
Colfeians then put together their best passage of play putting the home side again a lot of pressure which the Reigatian did extremely well to kept the Visitors out however again Colf’s confidence grew as we entered the final quarter.
Harrison Mitchell had replaced Tom Woodford and with his first touch of the game added to the scoresheet and the score hit 50-5. With Reigatian players feeling the efforts of the last 60 minutes play. Defense seemed to suffer and Colfs managed to add a try this was 36 minutes in to the second half. With the home side players looking for the final whistle OC’s scored again to make the score 50-19 which didn’t look like it could affect the final score but it meant Colfs were a single try away from earning a bonus point for their fourth try. To be fair they came back at Reigatian and fought to the end and with the final move of the game claimed that BP with their fourth try. Final Score 50-26.
Congratulations to Dan Jones who played his 50Th 1st XV game Saturday and was presented with his Cap after the game.
Two wins out of two and next Saturday OR’s visit Sutton & Epsom which is never an easy place to play.
