On Sunday a large Raiders Cs squad made the journey to a very sunny Sunbury and London Irish’s fabulous facility.
We were up against another large side with a sizable bench but, after a decent warm up, we were raring to go! After quite an even start, Irish’s strong runners and some weak tackling allowed them to build an early lead. Mid-way through the first half, we came roaring back with a couple of excellent tries. However, our purple patch was short lived with Irish finishing the half well.
The second half was a much more even affair, seeing us improve in the tackle, ruck and in general physicality which was really pleasing to see. Irish’s strong runners didn’t go away but we managed some nice tries of our own, including one in the last play of the match to end in high spirits.
It was great to see so many stay for after match tea where we all discovered a mutual love for lasagne – who doesn’t like lasagne??
We need to work on our confidence and aggression in the tackle and ruck area, which will be doing in the next few training sessions. That said, I can see improvements already and love seeing them becoming more of a team each week.
