A crisp and bright Sunday morning saw us hosting Horsham for a friendly with a great turnout of 18 enabling us to rotate players and give them plenty of match time.
In the first quarter Horsham made a fast start and some strong running had them opening the scoring. Thereafter it was clear that our training around the breakdown was time well spent and we were able to exert control over the ball and the subsequent pressure led to several scores and the quarter ended with Reigatians comfortably ahead. The second quarter was more of the same and we maintained our lead.
Horsham really had the bit between their teeth in the third quarter putting us under serious pressure with some intelligent kicking, strong running and improvements around the ruck. We were beginning to tire around this point and Horsham, though still behind at the end of the quarter had reduced the deficit to a couple of try’s.
The players found some reserves of energy to the regroup for the final quarter, got back to doing what had worked earlier and were once again in full control of the match. The coaching team and watching parents were delighted to see how the girls have improved and how they stuck to doing what they have learnt when tired and under pressure. Some great performances across the team, super skills from Lucy for a number of scores and Izzy finishing the match with 5. Some determined work around the breakdown from team captain Molly and her team of forwards laying the foundation for our runners. Lots of other notable performances, Mimi threatening with her strong runs and Sophia with some excellent scrum half work. Well done all.
