Beckenham v Old Reigatian

This Saturday, Old Reigatian 1st XV travelled to Beckenham to face the early league leaders. Never an easy place to travel, made even harder with nine 1st XV regular players either not available or injured.
However, the 1st half, if you looked at territory and possession OR were 100% in the game, however, the scoreboard told another story with at least three tries being given away. One lineout went astray for a  Beckenham to collect and go over the try line untouched, two interception tries from way inside their own half.
This mustn’t take anything away from Beckenham, who showed why they haven’t lost this season, when given half a chance, they were very clinical and took any points that were on offer with great skills and supporting each other superbly. Ten minutes into the game, Val Garrec had to leave the field for Seth Saunders to join. Seth was a Colt last season and represented London & South East at the U19 level. He took the scrum to the hosts and showed great potential, and along with seasoned campaigners Nestor & Collister, the scrum was one area the Reigate team looked comfortable. Captain Tom Allen scored a good try, but by half-time the score was 33-7.
To their credit, the team battled on in the 2nd half with young players such as Clay Blackburn, Max Nicol & Ben Thompson giving their all. However, on the day, Beckenham were on another level, and we can only try and learn and develop, and these players will have their day in the future.

Final score 68-7, a day to put down to experience and the players will train this week and look forward to an improved performance next Saturday against Battersea Ironsides at Home.
