Eleven players from the Old Reigatians Women’s Touch Rugby team made the trip to Reeds Rugby Club on Saturday for the six seven series, ready for fast games and plenty of laughs. The rain stayed away (a small miracle) and the vibes were high from the first whistle to the last.
We took on a lively mix of teams — Reeds Rebellion, Dorking, Effingham, Chipstead Flames and Hove Vixens — in rapid-fire seven minute matches with rolling subs, meaning there was barely time to catch our breath before diving back in. Blink and you missed it!
Despite the short games, the tries came thick and fast, with Meesh, Triggs, Lindsay, Jen and Sasha all getting on the scoresheet and the whole team causing chaos for defences along the way. After five hard-fought matches, we finished the group stages with three wins and two losses, which saw us qualify for the third-place play-off.
With tired legs but plenty left in the tank, the squad dug deep in the play-off and came away with the win to secure third place overall — a brilliant result and a real reward for the teamwork and determination shown throughout the day.
To top it all off, the tournament ended exactly as it should — with a well-earned curry back at the clubhouse. Huge thanks to David for getting us entered, Ann for keeping us all in the right place at the right time, and Jay for bravely taking on refereeing duties. Great rugby, great company and a cracking day all round 🌟🏉
We’re now hoping for plenty more tournaments (and friendlies!) throughout the year — bring on the game time, the teamwork and the post-match socials!
